Why This Matters

Communities aren't transformed by buildings alone.

They're transformed when people understand what already exists.

For years, West Bartlesville was the subject of planning efforts and community conversations. Residents showed up. Business owners participated. The community shared its vision.

The research was completed.

The community was heard.

But lasting change didn't follow because no one stepped forward to connect the research, challenge outdated assumptions, and lead the work forward.

Those assumptions shaped how West Bartlesville was viewed.

Many believed little could be built here.

Many believed meaningful investment wasn't possible.

Many believed West Bartlesville belonged to one race.

To some, "Westside" became synonymous with the words Black and poor.

But that's never been the full story.

Experience West Bartlesville was created to publicly challenge those assumptions.

Through history.

Through storytelling.

Through transparency.

Through the people who have always called this community home.

As those perceptions change, so do the conversations.

New partnerships are forming.

New investment is following.

Because before a community can change its future, it must first change how it sees itself.
